Fallow periods in consumer technology

"Consumer technology" meaning that the technology was generally available to the public for a reasonable cost. The Concorde example stretches this definition, but I'm leaving it.

Examples:

• Photography was cheaper but worse quality in the late 90s and early 2000s
• Music sound quality dropped in the late 90s and early 2000s because people used peer-to-peer networks to download 128kbps MP3s, rather than CDs.
• Transatlantic crossing times: When the Concorde was flying, London to NYC was 3.5 hours. When it was decommissioned, the fastest that a member of the public could get between the two cities went up to 8 hours. historical crossing times for ocean liners here.
