Color

Reducing the color on my phone has made my phone feel less addictive. Most configurations I’ve seen remove all color (greyscale), which I find too extreme. Instead, I’ve opted to remove some color (desaturation).

Set up color reduction

  1. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size
  2. Set Differentiate Without Color to "on"
  3. Tap Color Filters
    1. Choose Greyscale
    2. Set the Intensity to taste. I set it to about 75% (this removes 3/4 of the color)

Set up shortcuts

This section will help you set up shortcuts to manage your color settings.

Set up a "Toggle Colors" shortcut

This works like an on-off switch for color reduction.

  1. Open the "Shortcuts" app
  2. Tap the "+" at the top right to add a new shortcut
  3. Search for "color filters" and select "Set Color Filters"
  4. Change the shortcut from "<Turn> color filters <on>" to "<Toggle> color filters"
  5. Tap the title at the top, "Set Color Filters" and rename it to "Toggle Colors" (or another name of your choice)
  6. Tap "Done" at the top right

Set up a "Temporary Color Restore" shortcut =

This allows you to restore your screen to full-color temporarily. It will revert to reduced-color after a time.

  1. Open the "Shortcuts" app
  2. Tap the "+" at the top right to add a new shortcut
  3. Search for "color filters", select "Set Color Filters", and change the shortcut from "<Turn> color filters <on>" to "<Turn> color filters <off>".
  4. Search for "wait", select "Wait", and change the shortcut from "Wait <1 second>" to "Wait "<120 seconds>" (or a duration of your choice)
    • Hint: You can hold the '+' icon to speed up setting the wait time to 120 seconds

Add the shortcut(s) to a convenient place

You can add the shortcut(s) you've created to:
